Lament of the Sphinx

I love the work of Claire Wendling and this sculpture was inspired by her drawings, specifically the creatures from her book "Desk". Recently Alfred Gilbert and Antoine-Louis Barye have been some of my favorite sculptors and I believe their work has influenced how I render surface in clay.
I've done many big cat studies and this one was a lot of fun to work through the riddle of choosing the correct pose and expression for her.
